THE MENU

Text, Language and photo imagery on flashed glass can bring spice and interest to
ANY creative glass meal. The Menu is an example of this process.

Ingredients and Equipment
Versa Color ceramic glaze
Stiff brush
1 piece Bullseye sheet glass or machine flashed glass
Acu Print transparency film
Photo Brasive Image Pro film
Photo Brasive Application Adhesive
Resist: Contact paper, masking tape or Stencil
Fiber paper 1/4" thick and some fiber blanket
Computer and good printer
Darkroom, Exposure Unit and washout pressure washer
Xacto knife and scissors
Sandblaster with 30 lb pressure and 200 grit garnet or aluminum oxide

Steps
1. Create the text and/or images on computer using the exact size of font and layout one desires. The size may be limited
by size of film one uses, so check size. Halftones will work well.
2. Print the text onto Acu Print clear transparency film, using "Glossy film" print setting. We use an Epson 60 printer. Additions may be drawn on the transparency with Opaque Film Ink. The goal is a very dense positive film
transparency. Copy shop transparencies are too thin and do not work.
3. Expose the Photo Brasive Image Pro film thru the transparency and wash out with pressure washer in a dark room, using yellow light source.
4. Cut glass to correct size and clean with alcohol. Using stiff paint brush, paint on Versa Color ceramic paint on smooth side of glass.
5. Fire glass to 1300F, going as fast as possible once reached 1000F. Anneal and cool.
6. Apply Application Adhesive to glass with lint free cloth or finger, as thin a layer as possible, and let dry 10 minutes minimum.
7. Adhere film to glass, pressing on with burnisher to avoid air bubbles, and pull clear backing off sandblast film.
8. Mask off all uncovered areas with masking tape, sandblast resist
9. Sandblast with about 20-30 lb pressure and fine garnet, aluminum oxide or silicon carbide to blast thru the Versa color paint. Soak off stencil, clean glass, and dry.
10. Arrange 1/4" fiber paper in the kiln with fiber blanket below it so that final glass will look like slightly curling paper.
11. Slump the glass, holding at 1150F until it bends. Anneal and cool.
